How much should I charge to fully setup a template-based website?
Author: admin | Category: Uncategorized
A former boss of mine has asked me to setup a small website for her to show off and sell her monogramming/personalization merchandise. She specifically wants to use a certain website that has it’s own templates and it’s own site builder (she wants to be able to maintain it herself in the future, so it needs to be super easy). The site will be similar to http://www.lilypademb.com. She will be providing me with all of the pictures and pricing and I’ll do the rest. This will include photo editing, uploading, and organizing as well as setting up her payment abilities whether it be paypal or something else. I have no clue what I should quote her as a price. Should I do it by the hour? Should I do it by the number of pictures? Should I saying “It will be $xxx for 100 pictures, $xxx for 200 pictures, etc.”? Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is a very small e-commerce website with limited dynamic actions and content management system.
Prices for these have fallen drastically to something like 10$ per page, including graphics and pictures! (and are not worth bothering with).
Think this way: adding a picture to the code takes 17 sec. Uploading it with FTP takes 3 sec. Total per image 20sec.
Get paid 1$ per image is too high a price…
Since you are forced to use some template based system, the “design” should be really simple. Charge by the hour if you can, 10-20$/hr (if you are good and quick!). Otherwise, 2 to 500$ is a max: she can get these sites designed by “emerging economies” for 200$!
(Try rentacoder.com: e-commerces start as low as that!)
