I want to make a website using one of the many online builders, but i also want to be able to host it on another server. So like geocities type thing but being able to host it on a server of my choosing. Does anyone have any ideas/programs/websites that will allow me to do this?

build it with web expression or dreamweaver on your computer then upload it to the host of your choice
or you could use one of the tools here and get a great deal on hosting too.

You can create it using one of the online editors, publish it to their server, copy the code, save it to your computer, and upload it to any server you wish.
BUT…Those programs all write a lot of garbage code. You would be better off taking a week or so to learn basic html and using xhtml kit (free) or notepad (also free). You will get a better site that will work better and faster on any browser.
Also get a copy of Photoshop, Elements, Gimp. etc and reduce the resolution on your graphics/photos to 72DPI; that’s the highest that browsers see. If you put up beautiful 10 megapixel photos they will take a long time to download and people will leave your site.

The pros of free are obviosly the cost. The Cons are that you hardly get customer support and the site is liekly to go down a lot. The cons of paid hosting are cost of course and the pros are your site is up 99.9% of the time, you get decent customer support and more options for your site:
I suggest you have a look at they will register a domain name for free for life and come with unlimited webspace and unlimited data transfer and you can go with them on a monthly basis.
They come with website builder and plenty of scripts for website creation.
Also when you sign up with them if you enter in a discount code they will give you 25% off their ridiculously cheap hosting plans. code to use is 25OFF
I host all my sites there and have been more than pleased with their help and support which is available by phone support! I hope this helps
